It’s Mothers Day weekend and of course it’s a time to celebrate and honor our MOM.  When you think of Mothers Day what do you think of?

-Breakfast in bed
-Brunch
-Church
-Snuggles with my kids
-Not having to cook any meals for the day
-Someone else doing the laundry
-A bubble bath-
-A manicure and pedicure
-A full nights sleep that is completely uninterrupted

Yes all of those things sound perfect right!!!  But when it comes to letting someone else take care of you it also means that someone else has control over what you are doing and eating!  If you are like me this totally freaks you out! As much as I love when someone else does the cooking and the plans for the day I like to be in charge.  Soo how do we be in charge and not be bossy?!?!

Well here is my tips!
1.  You leave hints about what you want to eat on Mothers Day.
So say that your wonderful husband is going to prepare you a brunch for your family. Make sure to let him know that you are excited for the brunch and since you are really trying to stay on track with your nutrition and fitness goals could he make you an egg white and veggie omelet instead of regular eggs!  Seriously he is not going to tell you NO because it is your day!

2.  If you are visiting with family and friends take something to share with you.
I have to say that this is the one way that I maintain control in a situation where honestly I have none.  I always take a dish that I can eat, that is clean, that no one else knows is truly healthy and that is what I eat!  If you are going to brunch take this!  Seriously every time I took this to my MOPS group or made it for family they raved about it and asked for the recipe.  Yes its clean but I didn’t say a thing!

Celadon Baked Oatmeal

The Cinnamon Quinoa is another good breakfast casserole as well that people will know is healthy but will love because of the texture and flavor!
Or you can do what I did yesterday and asked my Mom to bring a dessert that I don’t like to eat.  I gave her specific guidelines not to bring Coconut Cream Pie. That is my favorite and I struggle to resist.  But Banana Cream Pie and Lemon Meringue, she can bring it and I won’t touch it!
What could a great healthy breakfast brunch look like:
-Egg White Omelets
-Regular Omelets for others
-Celadon Baked Oatmeal
-Ezekiel Toast
-Fresh Fruit Salad
-Turkey Bacon
-Flavored Coffee and Teas
-Almond Milk Coffee Creamer
-Fruit Infused Water
3.  If you know that the meal that you are going to is not going to be worth your cheat meal then make sure you have a game plan going into the event.  I will do one of a few things.
Drink my Shakeology on the way to the get together so that I am not starving, I actually ate a meal, and then while I am there I make the focus about socializing with others instead of the fact that there is nothing there I can eat.  I find the fresh fruit or veggies and load up.  I truthfully exercise will power, I know that the food is not going to make me feel better.  Food is fuel and if it’s not giving me energy or improving my body then ehhh it’s just icky stuff that will stick to my butt and thighs and make me feel more guilty in the morning.  Yes it’s hard to be strong, but yes it is also worth it too!  Don’t let the cookie rule you….you rule it!
I make my health a priority for these two!
4.  Workout.  Make sure you don’t skip your workout on a holiday.  No matter how hard you try to stay on track holidays are always a little higher in the calorie intake than a regular day would be.  So get in some kick butt cardio and call it a day!
5.  Drink WATER.  Make sure to drink your water and lots of it! Aim for 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water each day.  Water keeps you feeling fuller, it keeps your skin looking fresh, your bodies metabolism up and the weight loss progressing.
Remember that you are worth it!  You are creating a healthy lifestyle, one that sees an opportunity to improve your future.  Yes balance is super important but pick and choose what means the most to you!
Healthy WIFE, HEALTHY FAMILY, HAPPY LIFE!!!
