Let’s talk IG stories! Last week, I wrote a blog post about using Instagram in general to grow your business. But today I want to focus on one of my favorite parts of IG which is IG stories.

When I started my business almost 7 years ago, I didn’t have an Instagram and IG stories didn’t even exist! So I have definitely learned through trial and error what is the most important social media to use and how to make the most of it. Right now, IG stories are super hot so I want to share some of my tips with you.

First of all, how often should you post? I would suggest 7-10 times per day, but there really isn’t an exact number that I’m aware of. To see how your story is doing, swipe up while watching it. And I would definitely suggest using canva.com for IG story templates!

So lets get into some tips.

Use Polls

IG stories are great because you can get your followers to engage with you! Using polls is the best way to do that. I always try to keep it POSITIVE. So you can ask a question like “Did you workout today?” and then add specific answer options, like “Yes I have!” and “Not Yet!” instead of just YES or NO. Instagram lets you see who answered with which response, and then you’re able to reach out to them directly to chat.

Share Your Life

This is what IG stories are all about. Your Instagram should look professional and clean, but your IG stories are really just a day in your life (which can include chaos!!). You can showcase a day in the life of your business, or show what you’re eating for dinner and then direct your followers toward the recipe, or you can show a product in action or explain how to use it. Use your IG stories to celebrate a milestone of your own or of your customers – but be sure to ask for their permission first!

Use Hashtags and Tag Brands and Your Location

No matter what I’m wearing, I’ll always tag it in my IG stories. That way my followers can see and people who search for the brand will be directed to my story. It’s a win-win situation! Tagging your location is great too for the same reasons – it will help people find your page. You can also use regular hashtags in your IG stories!
