Meet Melanie

My Story

I am a 34 year old mother to 2 beautiful boys, Landon age 7 and Bryce 6. I began my fitness journey 5 1/2 years ago. On May 1, 2011 I began the Summer Slim Down Challenge with my coach that ultimately changed my life. After I had my second son Bryce I was frustrated and depressed about the way my body looked and felt. I could not believe that I had let myself go the way that I did.  After 2 kids I had serious stretch marks, loose saggy skin, and Diastis Recti that was so bad that I could fit my fist in between my abs.  I didn’t know where to start but I needed something because my lack of confidence was affecting my relationship with my husband, my confidence and my energy level with my kids.  I was looking for a way to get in shape and shed those unwanted pounds from pregnancy but going to the gym was not in the budget at the time. A friend on Facebook had messaged me about this challenge that she was doing and asked if I would be interested. I figured, what the heck I’ll give it a shot.

I signed up for a free Team Beachbody account and took before pictures and my measurements and began the challenge. I had borrowed Insanity from a friend and decided that would be my program of choice. The pictures alone made me want to hurl, so that was definitely my motivation to get in shape!

I started with the Fit Test for Insanity and just about fell over dead! But I decided from that moment on that I was going to give it everything that I had and make a change. I sat my husband down and explained to him how important this challenge was to me and that I needed to feel better about myself. I was 136 lbs and that was the heaviest I had ever been. My husband agreed to support me and watch the kids while I worked out. I managed to put them both down for naps at the same time and workout in the afternoon each day. After about 3 weeks I was hooked. I could see that my body was changing and I was able to do more push ups but I still couldn’t do the entire workout without stopping.

After 30 days I couldn’t believe how much better I felt.  But, I wasn’t losing the weight fast enough (2 lbs in 30 days)  so I began doing research and found the Eat Clean Diet.  I did an enormous over haul of my fridge and pantry and started cooking clean meals and planning out my weekly meals.  You know what they say, “If you fail to plan it’s like you are planning to fail” and that is what I was doing.  I thought I could just cut out the white bread and eat whole grain bread or have Diet Pepsi versus regular Pepsi.  I had no understanding about nutrition and the quality of your foods.  I really began to dig into Clean Eating and how to start creating a meal plan based on nutritional value of foods vs the calories and quantity.  I saw a tremendous difference in the next 30 days and I wasn’t starving, actually I was eating MORE food than ever before.  The secret is that it was the RIGHT kind of foods instead.

By the end of my 60 days of Insanity I had lost 11 pounds.  I loved eating clean and I was starting to have amazing energy every day.  I began drinking Shakeology and didn’t have that afternoon slump like I used too.  I used to take a nap every afternoon while my kids slept.  Shakeology also helped me jump start my weight loss and shed the rest of the pounds.  Shakeology gave me 1 meal a day I didn’t have to think about which was my lunch.  I used to just grab what my kids were eating.  A handful of goldfish, chicken nuggets leftover on their plates and grapes.  I literally grazed all day long and didn’t realize how bad it really was.

Shakeology allowed me to get the kids lunch and have my own quick and easy lunch without having to make 2 totally different meals.

Now, I get up at 5:00 am to workout and eat 6 small meals a day with Shakeology being one of them.  I feel the best that I have ever felt in my life.  I have finished P90X and I have actually surpassed my goal weight. I am down to 114 lbs and I fit into clothes that I wore before Landon was born.  It’s an amazing feeling to look in the mirror and love the person that you are!  I also became a Beachbody coach because I love the products and I have had such amazing results that I wanted to share my successes with others and help them to achieve their health and fitness goals to.  I started the 724 Fit Club in Mars, PA to inspire others to get healthy and lose weight.  I have already expanded our fit club locations to 3 other spots around the Cranberry area.  I have been able to help so many people change their lives and get healthy!  I have learned so much over the last 5 months and  I want to share it with others!  I truly have found my passion!  I love exercising and eating clean.  My family eats clean and they feel great too. My husband just started doing Insanity and I can’t wait to see where it takes him!  Check back for updates on my fitness journey!

My Progress Updates

March 11, 2012

I am starting Phase 3 of P90X2 this week.  I have maintained my weight at 110 lbs with eating clean, shakeology for lunch everyday and working out 6 days a week.  My main health and fitness goals are to build lean muscle mass so that I don’t look skinny but fit and toned.  So I am lifting heavier weights with fewer reps, following the clean eating principles but carb cycling to help lean and sculpt.  ABS are made in the kitchen so I’m really focusing on when and what I eat!  So yes the eat clean principles say you can have 2-3 servings of complex carbs and fruits a day so I do get them but I tweak the times of day that I eat them.  So I eat my fruits in the am (low sugar fruits) and my carbs early in the morning on days I workout first thing in the morning.  There is so much more to my diet than this but you get the idea!  It’s working great and my muscle tone is really starting to show!


October 16th, 2013

Update: October 16th, 2013. Even though I have reached my weight loss goal I still work out 6 days a week. Not because it’s a chore but because it is something that I truly love to do! Right now I am in the Gamma Phase of T25. I am in the best shape of my life and I absolutely love it! I have completed Body Beast, T25, The Ultimate Reset, Les Mills Pump and more!!! Looking forward to P90X3 in December.

Today

Wow I didn’t realize that I hadn’t updated my transformation in a while.  So here is the latest update as of February 2017.  I haven’t stopped since I started which marks the longest I have ever stuck to anything in my life.

I am currently in maintenance mode with my health and fitness.  I have completed every single fitness program that Beachbody has released over the past 5 years.  I have done the Ultimate Reset, the 3 Day Refresh and I completed 2 rounds of Whole 30.  My favorite workouts are definitely Hammer and Chisel & Insanity Max 30.  I find that my body responds best to a low carb, high protein and fat diet.  I do best with just eating sweet potatoes as my carbs and getting my carbs from my fruit and veggies.  I love good fats and that is the one area that I really have to keep tabs on so that I don’t go overboard.

Abs are REALLY made in the kitchen and I can workout every day but if I don’t follow my nutrition then I don’t see the definition specifically.

This is my latest transformation picture and I can’t believe that this is me beforehand.   I was searching through old pictures and stumbled upon this one and I just about fell off my chair.  Who is that girl on the left hand side?  I don’t even know her!  Thank goodness that I found Beachbody because it forever changed my life.  Who would of thought… the girl who didn’t believe in working out from home would have this kind of success.  What I can say is this… when you want to change more than you want to stay the same you are going to do whatever it takes.  Where your mind puts energy that is where the results happen.
