You just decided to become a health and fitness coach. Awesome! But now what?

Here are some of my best practices when launching your health and fitness business.

The greatest thing about this industry is that you can make your business whatever you want. If you want to be a coach who works face-to-face with others, you can! If you’d rather host fit clubs or be an instructor, that’s a possibility, too! If you want to keep the bulk of your business online, that’s where I really know how to help! You need to find the avenue that works best for you and be ready to roll!

Most importantly, when it’s all said and done, you must embrace the idea of growing your influence. Know where you want to share your story, as there’s no right or wrong way to go about it. The only wrong thing you can do is to do nothing.

Pick a primary social media outlet. 

  • This is where you are going to do the bulk of your business.
  • Become an expert in that area. Master this one area well.
  • Focusing on one outlet allows you to do you.
  • Rather than dabbling in many platforms, concentrating your focus to one place will allow you to become an expert there. This will help you stand out from others.
This is not to say you shouldn’t use multiple social media resources. I am just stating that rather than trying to do it all right off the bat, focus on what you’re good at and what you enjoy!

Take a leap of faith.

  • Practice what you preach. This will gain you trust from your followers.
  • Use your store front (your social media) to prove to others that you know what you’re talking about. You’re not just selling a product – you’re living the experience!
  • Take them on a journey with you. Share your story and why you’re inspired. Tell people what you’re doing, what you’re learning, and how you’re progressing through the use of the products.

This is the best way to develop credibility.

 

Sharing your story isn’t telling people what you’re doing and throwing up a post-workout selfie. Truly sharing your story is painting a picture as to how this workout, this meal, this process is changing your life. Talk about your thoughts, your emotions, and what this journey is brining out from within you.

By painting this picture, you are going to gain credibility by putting it all out there. You aren’t just posting on social media to post. You are teaching your followers something. Show them how their lives could be impacted. You are going to elicit emotion from within, put a call to action, and direct your followers back to you know know that it is possible for them, too!

 

Pay attention.

  • Stay engaged with those who are engaging with you!
  • Maintain visibility by keeping your social media social and interacting.
  • Reach out privately to those who are showing support! Thank them for the support. If people are consistently showing you the love, send them an invitation to join you.

By keeping your social media social, you will fulfill its purpose, keeping you out of area where some use it to simply sell a product. Sharing how you are being transformed through the process will gain interest and develop followers along the way. Talk and interact with others about your physical, mental, and emotional journey!

Stay engaged!

 

Add to your contact list.

  • Stay public with your profile. Make it easy for others to find you and follow your story.
  • Send friend requests and connect with others!
  • Don’t spam your contact list.

Grow your contact list by searching for people you’ve interacted with in the past, mutual friends, and actively participating in community interest groups.  Connect with these people. Engage in conversation. Create honest to goodness trust and friendshipsWhen you use social media to be social, your followers will eventually see what you do. 

Invest in personal development.

  • Work on yourself. No one is born confident. No one is born with leadership skills. These skills must be developed.
  • Fail forward, ripping the band-aid off quickly! Do not let the fear of failure hold you back. Jump in and put yourself out there!
  • Accept that feedback, whether positive or negative, is a part of the entrepreneurial process.

Understand that building a business takes time.

You must be in it for the long haul.

You must have a clear vision of where you want to go.

Your daily decisions will bring you closer or take you farther from this goal. Be intentional about what you do, what you say, and how you treat yourself/those around you to be one who moves forward.
