Last week at this time I had arrived in LA to be a featured speaker at our companies New Leader Conference. This is my fourth time being invited to at this event and hands down it is my favorite event. The energy and excitement of the new leaders in the room is contagious and you cannot deny that we have some incredible growth about to take place in our community of up and coming leaders. Plus I totally LOVE speaking and motivating others. I never knew I had this GIFT until this company came into my life. Being a coach uncovered this passion for leading, teaching and speaking to others about business and leadership.
The reason I’m writing this post is because I know I have so many followers out there that reach out and inquire about what I do as a coach and ask if I think that they can do it too. I want to spend some time today talking about the mindset of an Entreprenuer and how you can rise up through the company and receive an invite to the next new leader conference that the company will hold.
When I first started my business I had ZERO knowledge on how to build a business, how to launch an online platform, how to pitch to my niche and how to successfully run a network marketing business. I truly saw an opportunity based on my personal experience with the products to PAY IT FORWARD and teach others how to choose healthier options and stay motivated to start and finish a fitness program so that they could get the results that they wanted. The thought of knowing that I had a hand in someone else’s success totally ignited a fire in my belly. I legit spent all my free time learning about our companies products and programs so that I could make educated recommendations to those that asked for my help. I made it my mission to run successful accountability groups and support my customers in their journeys. I saw other leaders in the company beginning to create income and I then began to pay more attention to our compensation plan and strategy to increase our income. I envisioned how incredible it would be for our family to not have to live paycheck to paycheck and have the flexibility and freedom to go out to dinner, take a family vacation and enjoy some fun activities that we at that time could not afford.
I started to set more business minded goals while always keeping my focus on giving excellent customer service to my participants in the group. This focus on CLIENT first began to create natural referrals from my clients! They were sharing their results with others and passing on my contact information. I also DISLIKE the idea of having to SELL to family, friends and social media followers. So I made it my mission to each and every day treat my social media as my CLASSROOM and teach at least 1 skill related to fitness, nutrition and motivation. I felt comfortable asking people to join my accountability groups because I feel like I prove on a daily basis that I have knowledge and background to support you in your investment.
This was my topic of training this past weekend at the New Leader Conference! I taught the attendees how to manage their time and have life balance and how to create a marketing plan!!! Here is a little run down of how I structure my business time and accomplish my goals.
I would sit down each week and create a social media strategy for the week. I would outline my social media post ideas as far as recipes, tips, accountability and so on! Then, as the week went on- I would simply use my iPhone to take pictures and then create the content in the pockets of my mom life! Sure it was hectic at first because I was not only learning how to use social media but I was also learning the business on top of being a mom of 2 little boys under the age of 3 and the primary caretaker of our home. It was chaotic to say the least but I found total fulfillment in my work. I loved the fact that I could determine how little or how much I wanted to work and my efforts were a direct result of my income! I also loved that I didn’t have to report to a boss, I didn’t have a dress code or business hours. I essentially created my own schedule and as long as I have wifi I can do my job as a lifestyle coach.
So my days typically went like this:
5:00 am wake up call (my choice because I like to get my workout done first thing in the AM).
6:00 am I would post my after workout motivation and go straight to the kitchen table and create my content for the day. Interact with new customers and prospective customers, add new prospects and follow up.
When the kiddos woke up I put on my mom hat and served them breakfast, watched our morning mickey mouse clubhouse together, played, got dressed and did our usual routine.
At lunch time the boys always hung out in the kitchen and I would chill with my phone and do some check ins to my accountability group.
I also started creating a routine in our lives because before my business it was ANYTHING goes and there was not very much structure. I set a consistent nap time for the boys. Every day at 2:00 pm they would take a nap and I would immediately go to the kitchen table and start working on the tasks I wanted to accomplish that day. Anything from writing a blog post, sharing a recipe, making a video for my customers or answering messages. I would work with a purpose and eliminate distractions.
When the boys woke up from their naps, I would get dinner on the stove, do a load of laundry, straighten up the house and of course play some games and read books. I always have my afternoon cup of tea for a pick me up so I can keep on with my day! Before my business I would totally crash on the couch while they napped and watch my soap operas. But, because I was treating my body better and eating healthier foods plus getting good rest. I wasn’t needing as much downtime. Although, don’t let me fool you! I love a good nap and would choose a nap even if I didn’t really need one! So there are totally days during the week that I will schedule in some ME time! For example, Friday’s and the weekends are quieter in the business so that is naturally my re charge days!!!
I would then come back in the evening after the boys went to bed and the house was straightened up. I would sit down for a last minute evening check in. I would also create my to do list for the following day and reflect on my progress for the day. Even though I am a STAY AT HOME mom, I still treated my business like a business and didn’t leave my business activities to chance. From day 1 I was intentional about my actions so that I wasn’t wasting time. I can tell you HONESTLY that I had to learn how to be intentional and not waste time through trial and error. I certainly was not good at managing my time at first.
As my business grew- I grew in leadership because a huge focus of our job is personal and professional development. I learned how to be more efficient, to be a leader and to inspire others and of course how to handle the ups and downs of building a business. Investing in your own mindset is essential to your own success. I continue to invest at least 30 minutes a day in my mindset and affirmations otherwise its easy to get into your own head.
Over the past 6 1/2 years I went from being a new business owner to a full blown Entrepreneur. It wasn’t in one blink of an eye, it was a series of daily actions repeated over time that created a flywheel of successful habits and activities. I will say without a shadow of doubt business success comes from:
- Being consistent in the VITAL activities that create income.
- Being persistent when you hit roadblocks because you will hit roadblocks. You will have objections and non supporters. You will have moments where you question whether you were cut out for a business. But if you BELIEVE in what you are doing 100% and you always speak truth, eventually you will develop the trust needed to grow and succeed.
- Integrity is so important. Your reputation takes years to build and seconds to destroy. Keeping your message consistent, clear, and honest is so important. I truly believe in what I do as a health and fitness coach. I am careful what I promote and support because I want people to know that no matter what being healthy comes from consistent daily habits repeated over time and there is no quick fix.
- Learning to lead and inspire others: I can tell you that promoting a product and service was the easy part. It was learning to lead and inspire others that was the biggest challenge. I wasn’t a natural born leader. It was a learned skill. I spent a lot of time learning to listen, ask questions, meet people where they were at with their goals and give my time to my team so that they could overcome obstacles to reach their goals.
- Never give up attitude. I have a mindset of abundance. There is ALWAYS a WAY! If there is a WILL there is a WAY! I do not believe in a scarcity mindset. I believe that there are more people out there that need our help. There is a coach for everyone and everyone in some way shape or form needs support, accountability and friendship! I refuse to let negativity creep into my business and I promote an abundance mindset.
- Every obstacle is a chance to learn and grow. Nothing you want to succeed at will ever be EASY! But every roadblock is totally a chance to grow your wings and fly. I have adopted a practice of failing forward, reflection, refining and re implementing. Each and every day is a chance to grow from where you are now to where you want to be.
- Building a business is not for the closed minded. You have to believe in your ability to succeed. You have to learn to overcome your fears (because we ALL have fears). You learn by taking action even when it scares the SHIT out of you! You realize you are stronger than you think every time you step forward.
- You attach meaning to what you are doing. You are not just working for the income or rank. You might do that at first but you have a bigger purpose and calling and you learn to refine that. As a new business owner its all about just nailing down the basics of the company. As you grow its about building a brand, platform and having a voice that is soothing in this social media world.
Gosh… as I type all of that I realize what an opportunity that we have in front of us right now!! We are in the midst of an era where quick fixes and fad diets are everywhere. Businesses are popping up all over the place and as a lifestyle coach I see that I am a part of a sound company that has a really strong mission! We not only want to help people achieve their health and fitness goals but we want to always do it with LOVE! Listening to our CEO at the event last weekend where he shared how everyday he dedicates his activities to the service of love really struck a chord. Each day I open my phone or computer I do it with love!! Not every day is perfect but I know I’m making a difference and I’m doing something that I 100% believe in!
So if you are out there maybe you can relate to my story. Maybe you think to yourself… I would love to build a business where I can help others from my home or anywhere I have wifi! Maybe you are in a job right now and you just aren’t feeling the passion. Maybe you seriously want something different for your life but you don’t know where to start?
I have so many leaders who have started their coaching business while working full time and raising their babies and this has become their full time income or they still maintain both! Your possibilities are limitless. The best part is that as a leader I am 100% committed to my team, the training, the development and innovation of our business. Plus the friendships that I have grown from this business are priceless. I am truly thankful for this opportunity to bless our lives and our futures for many years to come.
As a leader of the Dream Team which is now the four time top team in the entire company I am still in the trenches, leading from the front and already thinking two to three steps ahead of how we can innovate as social media changes and our company launches new products.
If you are interested in learning more about what coaching is all about I’m going to invite you learn more.
