Many of us are at the mid-year point in our business. I know that certain businesses start their fiscal years at different times, but I’m finding that leaders or direct sellers, no matter what level you’re at, are starting to say things such as “I should be further along than I am right now.” That’s a very common saying, I even said that many times throughout my direct sales experience. The second thing I hear a lot of people saying to me right now is the overwhelm by the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Your big vision of where you want to go might feel unattainable at the moment because you’re far away from it. We need to paint the picture of what we want, and we have to get clear on why the goal matters to us. This is the 1️⃣ first step for your mid-year review.

When you go to do your midyear reflection you want to say to yourself, is my vision something that still motivates me? Is this something that I still get excited about? Because here’s the thing, If it doesn’t excite you, then we need to ask ourselves, why?

We need to make a shift because if our vision doesn’t make us have butterflies and get excited, it will never propel us to do the physical work that we need to do on a day-to-day basis. So we’re going to go back to that vision and we’re going to ask ourselves, does the vision still excite me?

It’s okay if the vision feels unrealistic right now, as long as it excites you. It’s not about whether or not we can or can’t accomplish it or whether or not it’s doable. It needs to be something that gets you excited. So if the answer is yes to that, we can move on, and we’re good to go. If the answer is no, we need to sit down with our definition of success and say, I’m not going to look at what the people in my organization are defining success at, but I’m going to look at myself and my core values.

When I think about my definition of success, I think about filling up a stadium with an entire audience of people who have come to an event that I am hosting, and I am speaking into that audience, inspiring and motivating people from the stage, teaching, training, sharing my gifts. My definition of success is that contribution, that significance. Filling up a stadium means I’m making significant income. It means that I’ve got a team behind me. I’m not running the show on my own. It means that I have courses and coaching programs that are selling themselves.

My vision of success is high achieving. Yes, I’m in the spotlight. I’m doing all of these great things, but I also come home and have a great home life. My husband and I have a good relationship, and my kids and I have a good relationship, and I have a few close friends, I’m close with my family members, I have deep, meaningful relationships, and I’m thriving in my career. That is when I think about my vision for success, traveling, having nice things, living in a beautiful home, and being able to go and give back and help other people. That definition of success may make you just nauseated because it’s not your definition at all, so you have to define yours.

The 2️⃣ second step of the mid-year reflection is to get out a Google spreadsheet, or just a regular spreadsheet to track your income. I’ve heard multiple people say to me, “I should be further along than I am right now, I should be making more money than I am right now.”. So your job, if you haven’t done so already, is to track your 2023 and 2024 income so far. Track your commissions, team volume, and cycle bonuses on the spreadsheet, and total them up.

The 3️⃣ third step of the mid-year reflection is to establish a mid-year baseline. The dust has settled and we’re six months in, who’s still showing up? Get out your whiteboard, or a very large sheet of paper, or a spreadsheet, however, you like to do it. I want you to begin to categorize your organization. Who are the people you have currently working the business? Who are the people that are emerging leaders? Who are my leaders? But when I say leaders, they are leaders in the present moment. They are not leaders by title. A leader is somebody who has achieved a leadership rank, I deem that in my network marketing company. They’re focused on growth. They’re coachable. They’re hungry, they’re showing up, they’re setting goals. I want you to be really crystal clear, who are your true leaders that you need to pour into?

Once you have established your baseline and your team performance, the 4️⃣ fourth step of the mid-year reflection is to send out a team survey to do a pulse check. Ask your team questions like where are you at in your business? What were the goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year? Tell me about your progress towards that goal, what’s standing in your way, what obstacles are you’re facing and how can I help you?

Now we go back to the goals. What are the things we said we were going to do that we have or have not done? Look at them very black and white. And I like to ask, what are the factors that are affecting my ability to get there?

The 5️⃣ fifth step is creating the plan. You have evaluated the goals, now you create the plan. Maybe this will be your season of intentional hustle. A quick reminder, this is not a sprint. This is a marathon. We have to pace ourselves.

What does running look like? Running looks like being intentional with my content, invites, follow-ups, and sales content. It also means that I am intentional about saying no to everything that doesn’t fit in that bucket. I am also intentional about my rest because if I want to run and be a high performer, I have to rest hard, which means I am very intentional about my days off. I’m intentional about doing things for myself and not wasting time. So we have to create a plan that includes business goals and health goals that align to ourselves specifically.

The 6️⃣ sixth step in the mid-year reflection is investing in yourself. When I say invest in yourself, I want you to take a moment and I want you to look around. Who are the people you’re spending your time with? Are they energy givers or are they energy takers? I look around sometimes at the people I started my success with. So I had success partners previously, many of them, over the years. And when I began working with them, they were energy givers. We were running at the same pace we were. Our momentum was feeding off of one another.

I will challenge you in ways you never thought possible. But if you want to get to that next level, having success partners truly is the key to making that happen. Or midway through the year, if you are spinning your wheels and circling the mountain and you are trying to figure it out on your own because you don’t want to invest in your business, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. You have to be bold in what you want. Never sacrifice the end goal, because it’s taking a little time to get there.

Melanie Mitro quote

There are times where I felt exactly where you were, and I thought to myself, I’m going to give it all I have. I’m going to give it 110%, because I never want to look back and wonder, what if? What if I would have gone all in? What if I wouldn’t have self-sabotage? What if I would have boldly posted about the opportunity?

I am grateful to say, that there is not a moment in my life and in my business where I can look back and say, I wish I would have gone after that. Seize the opportunity. I was scared to death every time I took a big leap of faith, every time I posted about the business, advertised for an opportunity event, or invited somebody that I thought would make a great partner in my organization. Sure, I was nervous, but I would rather feel that sting of rejection than that sting of failing or not trying,

So this is always going to be the draw-a-line-in-the-sand moment.

Are you willing to do the work?
Are you willing to get out there and be bold?

I know you are capable of it!
