Do you struggle with finding balance over the Easter weekend?  Maybe you are traveling, the kids are on spring break or you have family that is staying with you.  THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!  I never want to say that you have to be so strict that you don’t enjoy yourself, but I do believe we can find a balance between the two.  In today’s post I’m going to share with you what works for me and I stay on track over the holiday weekend!

Believe me when I tell you that I know what happens over holiday weekends! I’ve been working on maintaining my health and fitness since 2011 and I totally understand how the holidays trip people up when it comes to staying on track. It’s a big challenge and the last thing I want you to do is get discouraged! So I’m going to share with you some of my top tips for finding balance during the holidays.

Make your workout a priority.

It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling or out of the house – there is always time to fit in a 30 minute exercise session! Here’s a tip: use your workout as your “me time” when you feel yourself starting to get stressed with family and entertaining. The sweat will give you some serious stress relief!

*Make sure you download the Beachbody on Demand app so you can workout wherever you may be! You can even download workouts to access when you don’t have wifi.

Know that it’s okay to switch things up! If you know you’re going somewhere that won’t have the equipment you need, don’t stress. Go for a run, a walk, or a bike ride instead! It doesn’t matter as long as you get yourself moving.

Use your tracker.

Have you ever heard the saying that calories don’t count on the weekends (or holidays)? If only that was the case! It’s important to keep track of what you eat, even if you are a little more lenient than usual. The key is to focus on balance and not go overboard. Instead of focusing entirely on the food, focus on spending time with your loved ones and enjoying each other’s company.

Another tip is to think the menu through ahead of time. If you know you’re going to Grandma’s house and she makes amazing rolls, maybe enjoy your roll and skip the scalloped potatoes. It’s totally okay to pick and choose!

Drink your water.

We’ve all indulged in a little too many holiday cocktails before! If you know you’re going to be drinking, it’s even more important than usual to make sure you get your entire water intake before it’s too late. I also recommend drinking a full glass of water in between every cocktail you drink! Avoid sugary, overly sweet mixed drinks and go for cleaner options like a vodka seltzer.

Enjoy!

You’re human and you get to enjoy life! Just remember that you want to be eating because you’re hungry, not because you’re bored. In the end, it’s important to remember why you are getting together in the first place. It’s about family, traditions, and enjoying your time with one another – not stuffing yourself until you’re sick!

Have a great holiday weekend.  Feel free to share this post with anyone you feel would benefit from it.
