With the summer months slowly creeping up us on, I refuse to let us turn to adversity to have our businesses be put on the back burner.

Whether you are a leader in your direct sales organization, you are starting out, or you’re thinking about building your business, today we’re going to talk about tips to keep that momentum going and how to still end the month strong, even when you feel like it’s a slow season, or maybe even facing some adversity.

First thing that I want you to know is that even though it might be a more challenging season, that doesn’t mean we can’t achieve our goals! That is not a free pass for you to hang out on the couch, watch some Netflix, drink some wine and eat some cookies, right?

It is not a “I’m just going to come back at the end of the summer, whenever people are motivated again to make a purchase. or When people aren’t distracted, when people want to create change in their life”, all right?

That is not the right answer to our current challenge that we are facing. That is the wrong answer.

The reason that it’s the wrong answer is because anytime we say to ourselves, people are busy, people are distracted, they don’t want to make a purchase, I’ll just come back in the next couple of week, once people get into a routine, here’s the thing…

Even though people are distracted, they still have this little device, right, that they are going to still spend free time on, which means they’re watching stories, they’re watching reels, they’re watching TikToks, they’re consuming social media content!!!

Even if they’re not purchasing, they’re still consuming, which means you still have an opportunity every single day to make an impact.

That impact might seem simply be getting somebody to think differently.

It might be get educating them on, you might be feeling this way and it’s a problem that I can resolve for you or creating a shared relationship.

Your social media is you every day walking over and flipping the lights on in your virtual storefront and saying, I am open for business.

So if aren’t showing up, even when other people aren’t ready to show up for themselves, right, you’re going to be forgotten. That’s the most important thing; you have to show up and say you are open for business.

Through your actions, you’re still showing up. The reason why is you’re planting all of these little seeds. We need to keep the lights on in our business. That’s important during a slow season, we don’t stop. That requires discipline.

We want to grow a business, but when it’s kind of hard, when there’s a slow season, when buyers aren’t really in the buying sort of positioning, it’s easy for us to not become motivated. It’s easy for it to be like, oh, gosh, I’ve been getting so many objectives. I’m getting so many no’s. I’m not really motivated and show up to do my business today because it just feels extra hard right now.

For me, in my health and wellness, I don’t feel like working out every day. But I’m disciplined to work out because I know that it’s good for me. I’m disciplined to move my body because I know it builds strong bones. I know that in the long run, it’s going to give me more energy to get throughout the day. I feel better.

I feel more confident and alive when I take care of my body. So I get up and I’m disciplined to do it because I know that it’s good for me.

Let’s start thinking about that in your business, too.

I’m not always motivated to get up and do my business activities, but I’m disciplined. I’m disciplined because I have a vision and a why of where I’m going. That vision is to create a better life for my family, to create a legacy for my children, to be the example for my two boys.

I know that this is my responsibility. I am disciplined to show up and do the best that I can because I know that through adversity, I become stronger by learn new skills and new ways of approaching problems. So right now, when you’re not motivated to show up in your business because there isn’t a lot of people beating down the door to get what you have to offer, or there are a lot of distractions, I want you to lean on discipline. I’m not always motivated. Motivation comes and goes, but I’m disciplined.

I’m disciplined to show up and do the work that moves my business forward because, I understand that discipline is what creates change, that my long term discipline is what is going to help me reach that next level of success in my life.

It’s going to bring me one step closer to my goals of where I’m going. I’m going to choose to do the things that are not sexy, that are not pretty, that are not easy, that are not convenient, because I want to create a different life for my family. If we want to be average, then we can just do what everybody else does. We can check out when it gets hard or quit when things don’t go our way.

We start to look for the grass that’s greener on the other side when we hit a few roadblocks.

So discipline, that means that I do wake up in the morning and I look at my to do list and I say, what are the needle moving activities that are going to get me closer to my goal for my life? Then I am disciplined to say, I’m not going to go shop online. I’m not going to go busy myself by unloading the dishes in the dishwasher. I’m not going to busy myself by rearranging my desk, right?

After I send my invites, then I will unload the dishwasher. After I make this social media post, then I will go, you know, fold the laundry after I empty out my inbox, then I can online shop and spend some time doing something that I love.

Melanie Mitro Discipline Quote

The next step in this process is I’ve got to get a little creative during this time, during any sort of end of the month, slow season, all the sports, summer coming up, a holiday weekend, especially in the US, we’re going to come up on Memorial Day soon.

I sometimes think when you understand why I’m asking you to do something, you’re more likely to do it. So in times where business is slower, I find that if I need to, if my conversion rate is 10%, so if I invite ten people, one person is going to say yes, that’s a typical 10% success rate across the board. In a slow season, I might have to talk to 20 people to get one person to sign up.

You may not see the benefits of what you’re doing immediately. You may feel like you’re just eking to the next benchmark in your business, but what’s actually happening is you’re planting seeds that are coming to fruition in 30 days and 60 days in 90 days, and it is going to help exponentially propel your business forward!

The Compound Effect will take effect. You have to remember, that there’s going to be a little bit of grind in order to get to the glory. There’s going to be a little bit of hustle to get to the part where the leads start happening for me.

Now, let’s talk about the way we approach the situation differently.

What you want to be thinking is about why people need what you have to offer. What is the problem that the actual product resolves?

This is where most people don’t speak to or they don’t speak to the desire. Ask yourself, what is it that makes people’s lives differently? I want you to, on a sheet of paper, I want you to think about your ideal customer or ideal team member. They are very different in their problems, desires, and solutions.

Now since you know your ideal customer or team member, you can create social media content that needs to be circled around kind of what people are going through right now. Instead of just talking generally about your products, why do people need them right now?

Next, we’re going to start to spin our social media to show up and educate. Ask yourself, How can I show up and inspire?, how can I show up and entertain?

If the whole goal is to sell a specific product or product, you must educate. I’m serving them in the stories, but that’s where I’m truly selling, or I’m selling them in the DM’s.

When facing adversity, constantly asking yourself what is the problem that you can resolve for my clients right now will help you continue on. You can ask are you giving them simple, easy workouts that they can do even if they have 15 minutes a day? Are you helping women, as their kids go to camp, prepare healthy meals right, in under 30 minutes? Are you helping them with snack ideas for their kids in their lunches or in between activities? How are you a resource? How are you an inspiration?

This is the time for you to double down, to invite more, to create more content, to show up as a consistent force, to find the discipline within yourself, to do the work, even though it’s not producing massive results, but having that belief system, that belief in your core that you are achieving, you are building the foundation for the business that is going to be your future!
